K1 MILLION FOR EACH U-20 TEAM MEMBER
Football Association of Malawi president Fleetwood Haiya says Malawi's Under-20 players and officials will pocket a cool K1 million each for clinching the 4 Nations championship.
The Junior Flames punished the Kenya side with three goals to one to lift the title a day after the Malawi senior side miserably lost to the Harambe Stars.
Through his Facebook page, Haiya hailed the junior side saying the victory gives the country a reason to re-imagine the football pathway to greatness.
"With such foundations, the future of our game looks brighter. The transformational process requires vision, strategy through execution and the performance from the lads in the tourney inspired huge confidence," reads the post.
He adds, "Congratulations to the boys. You have done the country a huge pride. As a motivator following the great result, FAM is giving 1 million kwacha to each of the U-20 squad members which has won the tournament."
To win the title, the Under-20 side smashed Zimbabwe in the opening match before the victory over Kenya.
